A diesel generator is one of the hardest-working systems in your RV. It runs the air conditioning, charges the batteries, powers the kitchen, and keeps the lights on when you are miles from the nearest hookup. Like any engine, it needs consistent maintenance to stay reliable. The good news is that Fischer Panda generators are designed for straightforward servicing, with accessible service points that make routine upkeep manageable.
Here is a practical maintenance schedule to follow, organized by interval.
Every Month: Run It Under Load
It is advised to start your RV generator at least once a month and apply load to at least 50% of its rated output for at least one hour. This is especially important during periods when the RV is not in active use. Running the generator under load keeps seals conditioned, prevents fuel from gumming up in the lines, and ensures the unit will start reliably when you need it most.
When exercising the generator, always operate it outdoors or in a properly ventilated environment and never in enclosed areas where exhaust gases may accumulate.
- Check for any visible fuel or coolant leaks
- Listen for unusual sounds or vibrations
- Verify that the control panel readings look normal
Every 100 Hours: Oil and Filter Change
Fischer Panda recommends the oil and filter are changed every 100 hours of operation. The recommended oil grade is 15W-40 for diesel applications. Keeping up with this interval is one of the single most impactful things you can do for long-term engine health. Dirty oil breaks down faster under load and accelerates wear on internal components.
Fischer Panda offers Service Kits that include the correct oil filter and other consumables matched specifically to your model. These kits are ideal for regular servicing tasks, and Service Plus Kits are also available for longer trips where more than one service interval may be required.
Every 100 to 200 Hours: Full Service Inspection
Routine maintenance at this interval includes fuel filter replacements, coolant checks, and periodic inspections of belts and electrical components.
- Replace the fuel filter to maintain clean fuel delivery
- Check coolant level and condition, topping up as needed
- Inspect all drive belts for cracking or wear
- Check battery terminals for corrosion and clean if needed
- Verify all electrical connections are secure
