The truck’s cab and chassis is a Kenworth 33,000 (gross vehicle weight), 300 horsepower unit designed to house and haul a sophisticated command center from which contractors can control an Ultra Violet Light Curing chain and pull a fiberglass liner through a pipeline (such as a sewer or drain pipe) curing it in place to form a brand new pipe inside the old pipe.

Progressive Innovations asked engineers at Fischer Panda to find a generator solution to power a 22kW motor to provide air pressure once end caps have been installed on the fiberglass liner.

Fischer Panda’s solution is PVMV-N40-4 HD-HP3, a specially adapted radiator-cooled 40kW three-phase diesel generator, which supplies 102 amps of power at 480v.

Following a pre-cure camera inspection of the liner to ensure the installation meets quality control specification, the Panda then powers eight, 750watt bulbs creating radiation to activate the resin that is impregnated into the wall of the fiberglass liner.  The liner is then transformed into a brand new pipe under the ground with no digging required.

Progressive Innovations President Eric Carney said the company’s new command center design in the box truck setup called for a more sophisticated generator power source to run applications such as a larger blower, larger UV system with 1,000 feet of cable and much more wattage size of light bulbs.

“We picked Fischer Panda for several reasons,” Carney began. “Reliability, serviceability, size and whisper quiet operation of the Panda line of generators is key for our contractors to confidently rehabilitate pipes in the most non-obtrusive way through neighborhoods and on city streets.”

The PVMV-N40, according to Carney, fits nicely into the new UV Command Centers, two have been sold to customers and a third one is being developed for demonstration and rental purposes.

“We did review other generator brands, however we felt Fischer Panda was unmatched in all the categories, including service and maintenance,” Carney added.

The AGT 5000’s robust, freshwater cooled Kubota engine produces a continuous output of 240 amps with a peak output of 272 amps to maintain a high rate of charge throughout the charging cycle.

Once batteries are fully charged, the generator automatically shuts down and allows inverters to produce AC current in either 120 or 120/240 applications, typically providing enough power to cook, run air conditioners, wash clothes or make water.

If power demands exceed the battery banks capacity, the AGT 5000 will automatically start to charge and replenish the batteries—a seamless partnership to meet power requirements. When batteries run down, inverters can be set to auto start the AGT 5000, which will monitor and provide the appropriate charge.
